Originally a student project, Bokida was first developed as the graduation project for some members of the team’s BSc in Game Design at the I.C.A.N. school in Paris, France.
We were keen on creating an experience where we'd allow the players to express their creativity and where they would feel free to apprehend and explore our open virtual world according to their own motivations.
After graduation, we kept working on the game and delivered a demo version featuring some of the core mechanics. This demo received an honorable mention in the 2014 IGF Student competition. Since then, we've resumed development with the objective of turning the prototype into a full release game.
The intent is to create an experience almost sensual in nature. Our aim is to elicit playfulness, curiosity, and to provide a peaceful context for infinite play. With its resolutely slow-paced, open-ended design, Bokida is an invitation to succumb to one's sense of wonder, to lose oneself in pure play, and to find one's own fun in a system ripe with many emergent possibilities. Yet it remains a calm, almost meditative, experience that requires the player to dive in and explore a digital environment in search of its playful potentialities
